There are children and they don't run away screaming

I know, I am as surprised as you are.Today I have made a grand total of at least seven new, enthousiastic, loud friends, aged 3 to 7. Never knew that communicating with children was so easy yet so difficult. I am constantly at a loss for words. I mean, what do I say? "So you like arts and crafts? Awesome. Well, come to the Miniclub and you can arts and craft all you like." And then silence because what are you supposed to say next. Then again, the children don't care. For some reason, those few words are enough to prompt a story about how great holidays are and their dead pet hamster Minnie. (Okay, maybe they didn't tell me about their dead pet hamster, but they DID have a bubble blowing contest which resulted in a lot of sticky faces. All in the span of roughly three point five minutes.)

And then the adults! I'm still baffled that no one has accused me of being an imposter because honestly, I'm just bumbling and stumbling around. Loads of people here speak English or Dutch, but once in a while there's a French(wo)man and I am reminded how basic my knowledge is. But alas, I have not yet gravely insulted anyone, so I guess you can call that a triumph. And besides, everyone here is in a holiday mood, so they are willing to let things slide.

Then finally, the biggest suprise of the day I've saved for last: One of my colleagues actually invited me for dinner with friends. You can bet I'm taking her up on that offer!

Okay end of text Maaike out.
